How I Began Winning Sweepstakes and Contests
In 2004, I saw a lady on the Oprah show that talked about the thousands of prizes she had won over the years entering contests and sweepstakes. I didn’t believe anyone could win all those things. A few maybe, but thousands seemed way too far-fetched to me. The prizes she won ranged from t-shirts to big ticket items including cash.
After thinking about the show for a while, I decided that I would try sweeping (that is the name it’s called by those who enter sweepstakes as a hobby) and hopefully win a few prizes. I didn’t realize then that it would become such an exciting part of my life.
The next day I went to buy postage stamps, 3x5 index cards, and envelopes and began to search the internet for sweepstakes and contests.
I diligently and consistently entered not only mail-in and internet sweeps but also radio call-ins and drop boxes in local stores. Within one month I won my first prize. I got my husband and son involved too, although at first they didn’t believe we could win anything big, we won our first big ticket item in just a few months, A NEW CAR!
Here is that story. I hope it inspires you to begin your own hobby of winning!
The answering machine message from the bank left my husband concerned. Call the bank back promptly. Did we bounce a check? Did someone steal his identity? As he talked on the phone I walked in. With a quizzical look on his face he turned to face me. “You won’t believe this,” he said. “We won a car.”
A few months prior, I begged him to drive 30 minutes away to a car rental company that was sponsoring a contest for a car along with our bank. I filled out the entries (one per person) and dropped them in the box. My husband, who was skeptical, remained in the car.
Since then... I have used colored envelopes, stickers, cute stamps, fancy postcards and other ways to give me an edge. I have reaped the rewards by winning many sweepstakes over the the years.
Recently, a local contest asked for a story regarding a funny bathroom moment. I submitted a poem about my cell phone dropping in the throne. My win… an upscale toilet with all the latest gizmos! “We couldn’t stop laughing,” the lady at the other end of the phone said.
